Top Christmas Books for Kids to Read at Bedtime This Season
Creating a Cozy Christmas Bedtime Your Kids Will Remember
Between activities, later nights, and excited kids, it’s easy for December evenings to feel a little chaotic. This time of year is actually one of my favorite times to lean into simple routines that help kids wind down and feel settled before sleep.
One thing I see over and over with families this season is that kids do best when bedtime includes something familiar mixed with something a little special. A warm bath, PJs, brushing teeth, some 1-1 time with a parent, then a Christmas book feels like a fun holiday twist without throwing off the structure they rely on. It also gives you a chance to reconnect after a busy day.
So much of December is go-go-go, and that five to ten minutes of reading together can be the part they remember most.
Reading also helps signal to their brains that it’s time to shift out of the holiday excitement and into rest mode. Even the silly books work because the routine itself is what matters. Kids don’t need a perfect winding-down moment. They just need you, a predictable sequence, and a story they enjoy.
Here is a list of some of my favorite 5-star Christmas books. Some are perfect for the little littles, some are great for ages 4 to 10, and others are perfect for ages 2 to 7. Some are funny, and some are more heartwarming, but they are all loved by parents and grandparents.
A lot of the Christmas books we have were ones I bought when my boys were babies or that we received as gifts. They turned into the books we read every single year throughout their whole childhood. Now that they’re older, those books are packed up in a bin in the attic, waiting for the day I can pass them on and they can read those same stories to their own kids someday 💖
